Josef Fritzl case to be heard by Austria's top woman judge

Reported by The Sun UK.

A WOMAN judge will decide the fate of dungeon rape monster Josef Fritzl, it was announced yesterday.

Andrea Humer, 48 – Austria’s most senior female judge – will take charge of the trial of the evil dad later this year.

She is renowned as the country’s leading figure in difficult morality cases.

Her first act will be to supervise a statement from victim Elisabeth, 42, who was raped and imprisoned for 24 years by her father in their home town of Amstetten.

However, she is currently too ill to testify.

Her evidence will be taken by video link and watched by Fritzl, 73, and his legal team at the jail where he is held.

The system has been devised so shattered Elisabeth – who has six surviving children by her father – does not have to face him.

Fritzl has already admitted imprisonment, rape and incest.

He could also be charged with the murder of one of Elisabeth’s newborn babies.

The Spilt Milk

The Spilt Milk

This is a story about a famous research scientist who had made several very important medical breakthroughs. He was being interviewed by a newspaper reporter who asked him why he thought he was able to be so much more creative than the average person. What set him so far apart from others?

He responded that, in his opinion, it all came from an experience with his mother that occurred when he was about two years old. He had been trying to remove a bottle of milk from the refrigerator when he lost his grip on the slippery bottle and it fell, spilling its contents all over the kitchen floor—a veritable sea of milk!

When his mother came into the kitchen, instead of yelling at him, giving him a lecture, or punishing him, she said, "Robert, what a great and wonderful mess you have made! I have rarely seen such a huge puddle of milk. Well, the damage has already been done. Would you like to get down and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?"

Indeed, he did.

After a few minutes, his mother said, "You know, Robert, whenever you make a mess like this, eventually you have to clean it up and restore everything to its proper order. So, how would you like to do that? We could use a sponge, a towel, or a mop. Which do you prefer?" He chose the sponge and together they cleaned up the spilled milk.

His mother then said, "You know, what we have here is a failed experiment in how to effectively carry a big milk bottle with two tiny hands. Let's go out in the back yard and fill the bottle with water and see if you can discover a way to carry it without dropping it."
The little boy learned that if he grasped the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it. What a wonderful lesson!

This renowned scientist then remarked that it was at that moment that he knew he didn't need to be afraid to make mistakes. Instead, he learned that mistakes were just opportunities for learning something new, which is, after all, what scientific experiments are all about. Even if the experiment "doesn't work," we usually learn something valuable from it.

Nelson Mandela has one regret

Nelson Mandela is going to celebrate his 90th birthday

(CNN) -- In a rare and candid interview, CNN's Robyn Curnow spoke to Nelson Mandela's wife of 10 years, Graca Machel, to find out more about the man from the person who arguably knows him the best. Here, Machel reveals that Mandela's courageous and eventful life has left him with only one regret.
Machel: "We have enjoyed this relationship in a really special way."

How would you describe your relationship with Nelson Mandela?

He is simply a wonderful husband. We met in life at time we were both settled. We were grown up, we were settled, we knew the value of a companion, of a partner. Because of that, we have enjoyed this relationship in a really special way. It's not like when you are still young, you are too demanding. No, no. We just accept each other as we are. And we enjoy every single day as if it is the last day. Because of that, it has been wonderful to have him as a husband..

Do you look at him and go, "I married Nelson Mandela?"

At the beginning, yes. I already had this very deep involvement with him. Then sometimes. It's ... there was a sort of conflict between the man I loved and the myth. Particularly because people were saying things, and I couldn't figure out the two would go together. I know him as a human being, a person and this myth surrounding him. The aura around him was a bit confusing, but then I learnt to live with it, in terms of separating the two.

Is he comfortable in his own skin?

Absolutely. More than comfortable. He is so happy with himself. At the end of his life also he realizes, although he doesn't express it. He realized that he achieved the things he had as goals in life.

So is he at peace with himself?

Yeah, really. It's peace, fulfillment. Best way to characterize it is to be at peace with himself, but also at peace with the world

Does he have any regrets?

Ya, only one I know of. You feel he would have really liked much more input in the development of his children. Only thing. Although he tried his best.

Madiba (Mandela) was not given the opportunity to bring up his own children. He left them. Went to prison when they were very young. He didn't have much opportunity to do those things that a parent a father does to read stories to child.

How has he dealt with old age, for somebody who seems to be such a fighter, doer, has the frailty of old age frustrated him?

I think the only thing that frustrates him is walking. When he tries, he feels, he puts it as his knees don't cooperate ... that's how he puts it. He is not anxious about getting old. No, no, no. He feels he would like to move freely. That this the kind of frustration I sense in him.

Birthday wishes?

I have already given him the best present I could and thought of, 10 years ago when we got married. I looked back sometimes ... It sounds crazy, someone of my age at the time. I was 52; I married a man of 80. It wasn't a problem. I was so happy to marry him. I think after that any other thing is much less, because it will never surpass the possibility of us being together, sharing a life. That is the best I could have given him.

Because it is your wedding anniversary?

When we married, we didn't know we'd be given 10 years together. We have been very lucky. Very grateful for that.

Elisabeth Fritzl not ready to face the monster father

No matter how strong the incest victim Elisabeth Fritzl is, she is still not ready to face her monster father who locked her in the dungeon for 24 years and repeatedly raped her and fathered her 7 children, despite the family lawyer said the progress of this family is pretty encouraging.

Reported by Mirror(dot)co(dot)uk the cellar mum Elisabeth Fritzl is not yet ready to face her evil father - even via a courtroom video link.

Doctors say she needs more time to prepare for the ordeal that could see Josef Fritzl, 73, jailed for life.

Brave Elisabeth, 42, insisted on bringing forward her testimony to ensure he faces justice as soon as possible.

But on medical advice the preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for the end of the month - three weeks later than planned.

Elisabeth, held for 24 years in a dungeon at Fritzl's home in Amstetten, Austria, will be be able to see and hear him on a video link to his jail cell.

A family friend said: "Her doctors want to be certain that she is strong enough."

Amazing Food - Banana

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression 'going bananas' is from the effects of bananas on the brain. Read on:

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!
This is interesting.
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS:
Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation:
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin.. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach..

Temperature control:
Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use:
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:
According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts:
Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A banana a day keeps the doctor away!'

PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS
PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit !!!

Update - Fritzl family and euro 2008

Got the latest update on the Fritzl family from somewhere saying that the largest newspaper in Austria Kronen Zeitung or Krone reported that the cellar family is enjoying the Euro 2008 in the Amstetten-Mauer clinic,Austria

The incest victim Elisabeth Fritzl has lived with her children and her mother Rosmarie in the clinic since she was being freed from the dungeon. Now her normal daily life is to make breakfast in the morning with the help of the clinic staff, and after that Rosemarie will play the board games with her five years old grandson Felix, while the older children are schooled by private tutors.

The family will usually rest in the afternoon but the oldest son Stefan (18) will stay on to play video game.

“Lisa, Monika, Stefan, Felix and Alexander are doing very well, considering the circumstances,” said Christoph Herbst, the family's lawyer. “The family are slowly moving towards being prepared for a normal life outside of the Mauer Clinic.”

In the meantime, relatives are allowed to visit them in the clinic, and Elisabeth's sister often comes. “She has children of a similar age, and the clinic becomes a madhouse while the children play together undisturbed for hours.”

One of the most heartwarming moments of the day is when the family gather in front of the TV to watch Euro 2008.

Now Kerstin (19) also sits among them, having recovered from a severe illness contracted during her incest ordeal. She was reunited with her family in June after weeks in a coma.

The Fritzls' Euro joy makes them almost like a normal family. The children throw themselves into celebrating for the winners, but sometimes mother Elisabeth has to put her foot down. After all, they've got school in the morning.

Apple iphone - 7 biggist flaws

source from news(dot)com(dot)au

APPLE'S new iPhone 3G promises to be 133 grams of awesome.

It will do everything the iPhone does well — surf the web, serve up music and movies, and let you flick through your voicemail messages with a fingertip — only faster and cheaper.

Yet imperfections still lurk, in spite of Apple chief executive Steve Jobs's maniacal attention to detail. Even before its release, there are some niggling issues — some minor, others major — that make the iPhone a mere gadget, just like any other.

Here are the seven biggest iPhone disappointments, as noted by bloggers.

The cost

Those crafty phone companies! In the US, the new "$199" iPhone is about $US300 ($314.69) cheaper up-front than the original. It is not, however, less expensive to own because US mobile carrier AT&T has a pricier data plan to subsidise the up-front cost.

The gadget fiends at Gizmodo called that "a small price to pay" but Bits, the technology blog at The New York Times, called it "a step backwards for consumers".

In Australia, confirmed iPhone carriers Optus and Vodafone have not revealed the local pricing, but both will offer it on a no-contract prepaid plan.

No Flash

The iPhone is a surprisingly capable web device. Its wide, high-resolution screen and the ability to bop around the web by tapping links with a fingertip has turned mobile web surfing from a chore into a pleasure.

The biggest hitch: the iPhone still doesn't support Adobe's Flash technology, which means many multimedia-rich sites remain off limits.

While Adobe is working hard to make its technology iPhone-friendly, don't hold your breath.

No replaceable batteries

Hardcore road warriors don't have time to stop and recharge their phones. Instead they carry their batteries with them, clicking them into their BlackBerrys in the backs of cabs, or, if they're lucky, in a coffee shop.

By contrast, there's no easy way to crack open the new iPhone's sleek case to pop in a battery, disappointing bloggers.

And while kits are available for do-it-yourselfers, we wouldn't recommend trying it in between bites of your bagel.

Video recording

Apple's computers come preloaded with iMovie, a slick little application that makes video editing easy and fun. Apple's iPods, with the exception of the Shuffle, have evolved into snappy little video viewing machines. But if you want to record video, you'd better talk to Sony.

Despite the iPhone's built-in two-megapixel camera, Apple didn't include video capabilities, a feature even many low-end so-called "feature phones" have.

No cut-and-paste

The inability to copy a chunk of text and paste it into another application has baffled geeks since the iPhone's introduction last year. It's a simple tool that would make blogging and zapping bits of text to friends via e-mail a breeze. And yes, it can be done without screwing up the phone's interface.

No multimedia messaging service

This might be the most interesting example of what makes the iPhone quirky: There are some things dirt-cheap phones cranked out by the tens of millions can do that the vaunted iPhone cannot. The lack of support for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is one of the most maddening iPhone flaws.

Want to open an image sent to you via MMS by a friend from her (dirt-cheap) mobile phone? No dice.

Bonus — no voice dialing

No blogger seems to have complained about this yet. Maybe that's because all the geeks who might whine about how tough it is to dial the iPhone have already died in fiery auto wrecks because of this problem.

The iPhone doesn't have the voice-recognition smarts to let users dial verbally — the one feature that makes the BlackBerry, with its nubby little plastic keyboard, usable on the road.

New update - Josef Fritzl's wife return to dungeon house

New update from Mirror UK that the wife of incest dungeon monster Josef Fritzl has returned home to collect the toys and clothes of the secret family he imprisoned.

Rosemarie Fritzl pulled up in a battered red Volkswagen, with the number plate UU 389 BP, outside the three - storey house in Ybbstrasse, Amstetten, Austria.

The gated garden doors were opened by two police officers who are permanently stationed there to keep ghoulish tourists at bay.

Rosemarie, 67, dressed in beige trousers and light blue top, went inside with a female relative.

The pair left an hour later with several large suitcases and bags.

It was the first time a member of the Fritzl family had been back. Rosemarie plucked up courage to go in the cellar where Fritzl, 73, held daughter Elisabeth, 42, as a sex slave for 24 years.

He fathered seven children with her - one dying as a baby. Kerstin, 19, Stefan, 18, and Felix, five, spent all their life underground.

But he allowed Lisa, 16, Monika, 14, and Alexander, 12, to live a "normal" existence above ground.

Rosemarie collected Elisabeth's clothes and personal effects as well as Felix's favourite toys.

An insider said yesterday: "It was quite an ordeal for Rosemarie to go back there for the first time but she wanted to get the things for the children.

"Mentally it was tough to go back into the house. It has become something of a symbol of evil for her. She was shattered by the revelations of what happened to her daughter and the monstrous charade that her husband acted out over two decades."

Police had given Rosemarie special permission to enter the house, which is still a crime scene.

Gerhard Sedlacek, a court spokesman in Amstetten, last night confirmed no member of the Fritzl family ever wants to return. The house may be razed.

A hotographer spotted Rosemarie. He said: "She had to drive past tourists laughing and posing outside the 'House of Horrors'.

"It must have been terrible for her. She hurried inside and didn't look back at all."

The family was rescued in April when Fritzl, who will face trial in the autumn, allowed Kerstin to go to hospital.

What the banks don't want you to know about your mortgage interest

Found this kind of shocking news from this website Mortgage Watch about how most of the people being ripped of by the banks on their mortgage, having to pay up to extra $10k for the fees that we are not suppose to pay, it is too much, everyone is suffering on the interest hike but the banks just taking advantage of the so called "mistake" that they made, imagine there are still 90% over mortgage lenders unaware of this. Gosh! i really have to check my statement again in order not to make the stupid mistake if being ignorant.

Josef Fritzl : It was great for me to have a second proper family in the cellar with a wife and a few children

Saw this old news about the incest monster Josef Fritzl who imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth Fritzl for 24yrs from The Independent UK by Tony Paterson. It is real sickening to see the way he described his monster or evil act.

In his first interview since it emerged that Josef Fritzl imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth in a cellar beneath his home in August 1984 and forced to her to suffer a nightmare of incest, multiple rape and untreated births that lasted 24 years, the 73-year-old explained from his prison cell that, after the kidnapping, he saw no way out because he had become caught up in a "vicious circle" from which he could not escape.

He confessed to the lies he told police to keep his daughter hidden and spoke of the fears he had about being arrested, and of the hundreds of kilometres he drove each week to buy food for his cellar family to avoid detection.

But he also revealed the grim details of the life his daughter and three of their children – now aged five, 18 and 19 – were forced to endure in a windowless cellar without daylight or proper medical attention for so long. He recalled how his daughter, now 42, coped with losing all her teeth after more than two decades without dental care.

"I grew up in Nazi times and that meant respect for authority and the need to control. I suppose I took on some of these old values," Fritzl said in the interview, published in the Austrian media. He recalled being brought up by his mother in a tiny flat. She had kicked his father out because he was a "waster". "I was totally in awe of her. Completely and totally in awe," he insisted.

Rudolf Mayer, Fritzl's lawyer, who has defended neo-Nazis during his career, conducted the interview which he said his client had given to counter what Fritzl had called the media's one-sided portrayal of him as a "monster". He believes Fritzl should be committed to a closed psychiatric unit for his crimes and not go to prison.

Fritzl was arrested 10 days ago and confessed to keeping his daughter incarcerated in a windowless cellar bunker beneath his home in the Austrian provincial town of Amstetten for 24 years.

In his interview, Fritzl denied allegations that he had threatened to gas his cellar family if they tried to escape, but he added: "I am sorry to say that I told them they would never get past the door because they would be electrocuted and die if they tried."

Elisabeth Fritzl is reported to have told police her father began sexually abusing her at an early age and that she was raped for the first time at 11. However, Fritzl claimed in his interview yesterday: "That is not true. I am not a man who has sex with little children. I only had sex with her much later, when she had been in the cellar for a long time."

He insisted his initial aim had been to "rescue" his daughter. "Ever since she started puberty, Elisabeth stopped doing what she was told, she just did not obey my rules any more. She would spend all night in bars and come back stinking of alcohol and smoke," he said. "I tried to rescue her from this swamp. I organised her a job as a waitress, but sometimes there were days when she would not go to work."

Fritzl said his daughter had tried to run away from home twice and hung around with "persons of questionable moral standards". He insisted: "That is why I had to arrange a place where I gave her the chance – by force – to keep away from the bad influences outside."

The former electrical engineer, who was convicted of rape in the 1960s, incarcerated his daughter on 28 August, 1984. Her underground ordeal was to last 8,516 days. "I guess it must have been around 1981 or 1982 when I began to build a room in my cellar as the cell for her," he said yesterday, adding that he equipped it with a heavy concrete and steel, electrically operated door with a remote-control combination lock. "I then plastered the walls, added a washbasin and a small toilet, a bed and an electric ring, a fridge, electricity and lights," he said.

Fritzl said his desire to have sex with his daughter increased to a point where he was no longer able to control himself. He claimed that he raped her for the first time some eight months after her incarceration but denied that he had ever handcuffed her or tied her to a leash as has been reported.

"This was unnecessary. My daughter had no chance of escape anyway," he said. "At some stage at some time in the night, I went into the cellar and laid her on the bed and had sex with her. I knew that Elisabeth didn't want what I did with her but the pressure to do the forbidden thing was just too big to withstand. It was an obsession with me."

Fritzl admitted forcing his daughter to write letters to his wife Rosemarie which pretended that she had run away to join a religious sect. "With every week that I kept my daughter prisoner, my situation became more crazy. I often thought about telling a friend, but I was scared of being arrested. I got myself into a vicious circle from which there was no escape," he said. "I just kept putting off a decision."

In 1988, Elisabeth fell pregnant for the first time with their daughter Kerstin. Fritzl explained how he tried to calm his daughter down by giving her medical books about childbirth and providing her with towels and nappies. "It was great for me to have a second proper family in the cellar, with a wife and a few children," Fritzl said.

Indeed, a photograph of the family looks like that of any normal group of relatives. A teenaged girl in a checked blouse sits on the steps of her parent's rooftop swimming pool on a balmy summer evening in 1984. The sun has caught her bobbed red hair and a smile is starting to emerge on her lips. Yet the photograph, published in the German newspaper Bild, is no ordinary picture. It is the last image taken of Elisabeth before she was imprisoned.

Elisabeth bore seven children as a result of her incestuous relationship with her father, all without medical assistance. Yesterday, "Sissi's" last photo emerged together with a batch of letters written in teenage schoolgirl handwriting to a penpal, showing that only weeks before she disappeared, she had not only acquired a boyfriend but had well developed plans to leave home for good.

They coincided with the publication of an extraordinary interview with her father Josef, in which he attempted to justify the crimes to which he has confessed, claiming that his urge to rape his daughter had turned into an "obsession" which became too powerful for him to control.

Elisabeth's letters, sent to her penfriend, showed that she planned to leave home and move in with her sister as soon as possible. At the time, Sissi was training to be a caterer and had already started work as a trainee at a motorway restaurant. In the summer of 1984, she wrote: "After I have done my tests, I am going to move in with my sister and her boyfriend. They can't afford the flat by themselves. It's a bargain for me and I've got two rooms just for myself."

The letter explains that Sissi has a steady boyfriend who is doing training with her, but has joined another course to learn about cooking and being a waiter. She complains that he lives far away in another town. "That's why I am so sad."

Her letters paint a picture of a happy young woman who plays tennis, goes swimming and even plays football on her two free days a week. But the letters also give dark hints that she is already being abused by her father. "Sometimes I get pains and I feel sick again," she writes. "I am supposed to be off sick at the moment, but I am completely stressed out. My nerves are not in good shape either." The photograph is signed in Elisabeth's own handwriting with the words "Think of me !!! - Sissi".

Their son Stefan was born in 1990. But as the other children were born from their incestuous relationship, Fritzl hatched plans to move them upstairs when they were still babies. Again, he forced his daughter to write letters begging her mother to adopt the children because she could not cope.

Fritzl's Jekyll and Hyde double life went on for more than 20 years. Upstairs, he and Rosemarie kept their official family. She apparently never suspected anything and never complained about his sex holidays in Thailand. In the cellar below his home, Fritzl kept his "second wife" as he called his daughter, bringing her flowers and their children books and cuddly toys.

In 1993, he extended the bunker and installed a television, video recorder and radio in the cellar. He added: "I even gave Elisabeth a washing machine in 2002, so that she wouldn't have to wash all the clothes by hand.

"It just became a matter of course that I lived my second life in the cellar. We celebrated birthdays and Christmas down there. I even smuggled a Christmas tree into the cellar with cakes and presents."

But Fritzl also admitted that decades underground without daylight, or medical and dental care, severely affected his cellar prisoners. "Elisabeth stayed strong, she never complained, even when her teeth slowly went rotten and fell out of her mouth one by one. She suffered day and night with unbearable pain and could not sleep," he said.

In an attempt to cure his cellar family's illnesses, which included flu, coughing attacks and strange fits suffered by Kerstin and her five year-old brother Felix, Fritzl gave them aspirins. However the two children appeared to have inherited an allergy to the drug from their grandmother. The boy suffered fits of shaking and Kerstin would scream uncontrollably.

Fritzl said his daughter finally arranged a plan of action with him, and wrote a letter that was designed to accompany Kerstin, who, by that time, had lapsed into a coma and urgently needed hospital treatment. The letter eventually became the second family's passport to freedom. Kerstin was taken to hospital, Elisabeth was allowed to join her and contacted the police.

However, Fritzl maintained that it had been his intention all along to free his cellar prisoners and "bring them back home" as he put it. "I was getting older and I knew that, in future, I would no longer be able to care for my second family in the cellar. The plan was that Elisabeth and the children would explain that they were kept in a secret place by a sect. They betrayed me rather sooner than I expected as the problem with Kerstin escalated," he said.

Fritzl is to appear in court today and judges will almost certainly rule that he remain in prison until his trial. Fritzl said in his interview that he understood the "anger" people outside felt about his crimes and said inmates in his prison in the Austrian city of St Pölten banged on the walls of his cell and shouted: "Satan we are going to kill you" at night. "I only want one thing now," he insisted, "and that is to pay for what I did".

STROKE: Remember
The 1st Three Letters....
S.T.R.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone
that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .....she said she had
just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared
a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken
to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm
Ingrid passed awa y.) She had suffered a stroke
at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps
Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless,
hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours
he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said
the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting
the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps, STR . Read
and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately,
the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe
brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke
.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple
questions:

S *
Ask the individual
to SMILE.

T * Ask the person
to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)

(i.e. It is sunny out today)

R * Ask him or
her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with
ANY ONE of these tasks,
call 999/911 immediately and describe the
symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out
his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the
other
, that
is also an indication of a stroke.
